Tan Yun Xian comes from a family of medicine practitioners who have served as royal court physicians for many generations. When her grandfather is framed for a crime he did not commit, the Tan family is banned from the palace, forced to change their last name to Hang, and barred from ever practicing medicine again. Yun Xian, fascinated by medicine and determined to become a skilled physician, secretly learns medicine from her grandmother. Despite the many barriers for female physicians in ancient China, Yun Xian persists through treacherous times to become one of the most respected physicians of the Ming Dynasty and restore her family's name.
