Eun Seong returns home to Korea after studying abroad for 2 years only to find that her father has been struggling to save his company from bankruptcy. One day, his wallet is stolen by a thief along with his ID and credit cards. The thief subsequently dies in a gas explosion incident and the police mistakenly identifies the deceased as Koh Pyeong Jung after finding his wallet near the scene. Pyeong Jung decides to hide and not tell his family that he is alive in order to keep the creditors from hassling his family. His second wife, who is merely Eun Seong’s stepmother, immediately collects the life insurance payout as a result of Eun Seong's father's "death" and then shoos her stepchildren away so that she can move into a new house with her daughter Seung Mi. In order to make end's meat, Eun Seong takes on a job as a waitress at a nightclub and meets Joon Sae who helps Eun Seong as much as he can out of the goodness of his heart. A year later, Eun Seong begins selling dumplings to make more money to pay for her college tuition. Meanwhile, Jang Sook Ja, the founder of a successful food company, becomes deeply disappointed in her grandson Woo Hwan who seems to be going nowhere with his life. She visits her old neighborhood in the poorer part of the city where she encounters Eun Seong who is selling dumplings. She learns about Eun Seong’s hardships and concludes that she is a sincere, hardworking girl. To test Eun Seong’s mettle, Sook Ja moves in with Eun Seong, sharing a tiny room. Afterwards, Jang Sook Ja makes up her mind to appoint Eun Seong as the heir of her food company and brings her home.
